It is with great pride that THE ALPHABET BUSINESS CONCERN are pleased to present, for your listening pleasure, this glorious celebration of reworked or previously unrecorded songs from the murky past of our beloved wards, CARDIACS.
It was deemed appropriate, indeed, it was insisted upon that they secrete themselves, for the duration of the summer of 2003, in a nameless place of our choosing. There they remained until the requisite level of skill and dexterity had been accomplished to facilitate, to our satisfaction, the performance of these rare and beautiful lost masterpieces with a new verve and power previously unknown.
THE ALPHABET BUSINESS CONCERN dutifully provided from our fetid archive the faded manuscripts and dirty wax cylinders wisely removed from their youthful, clumsy grasp many years ago, returning them to their responsible unshaking adult hands, the hands of men blessed with the moral stature and fortitude we have come to expect.
It was from these tattered aids to memory that they were to recreate this cornucopia of delights and, as is becoming of our generosity, all our wisdom and guile was used to carefully cajole and encourage the course of this particularly leaky ship.
The consequence of this Behemoth of a project being steered safely into harbour was a Gala concert performance over three heady, sweaty, magnificent nights at London’s ‘intimate’ Garage venue in the autumn of 2003. We took it upon ourselves to commit these echoes of the past to recorded form, a decision not undertaken lightly, as many of these gems were never intended for electronic encryption into digital compact disc form. The results of this daring enterprise we generously bequeath to you, pathetic listener, you will hold history in your damp hands.
